Import or export contacts

Bring in a customer list from Excel or Google Sheets, or download your contacts.

4 minImport: owners and admins

Before you start

  • A CSV file with a name and phone column (up to 5,000 rows, under 2 MB).
  • The customers agreed to get WhatsApp messages from you.

    Open Import / Export

    Go to Contacts and tap Import / Export.

    Choose your file

    Under Import, tap Choose a file and pick your CSV.

    Check the counts and label

    Check the numbers. Keep or change Add this label to everyone, so you can find this group later.

    Confirm consent and import

    Tick the box that these customers agreed to get WhatsApp messages from you. Tap Import … contacts.

    Export

    Under Export, tap All contacts (CSV), a segment, or Contact Quality report to download.

Tips

  • Numbers starting with 0 are turned into Malaysian numbers (60…) for you.
  • Duplicates are merged, so importing twice does not create copies.
  • Numbers that can’t get WhatsApp are flagged in Contact Quality after the first message.

Something not working?

It says "Use a CSV under 2 MB".

Split your list into smaller files.

Export says it is not included in my plan.

Exporting data is on Basic and higher. Tap the upgrade button to upgrade.
