API limits and error codes
Know how many calls you can make and what each error means.
- 1
Know the speed limit
Each key can make 60 calls a minute. Your business also has a daily number of API calls, which is higher on Max than on Pro. The day resets at midnight Malaysia time.
- 2
Handle 429
429means you went over a limit. The message says whether it is the per-minute or the daily limit. Wait and try again, or slow your app down. - 3
Handle sign-in errors
401means the key is missing, wrong or revoked.403means the key is read-only for a write call, the API is not in your plan, the business is not active, or a plan limit (like contacts) is full. - 4
Handle request errors
400means the body is wrong or missing a field (the message says which).404means the endpoint or the contact/order was not found.409means a message could not be sent, usually because the 24-hour window is closed.500is a problem on our side; try again later.
Tips
- Errors always look like
{ "error": { "status": 429, "message": "…" } }. Show the message to whoever runs the app. - Each API key also counts toward MCP calls, because MCP uses the same keys.
Something not working?
I keep getting 429 in Zapier or Make
Add a short delay between steps, or spread the work over the day.
403: The API is not included in your plan
API, webhooks and MCP are in Pro and Max. Check Settings → Billing & AI fuel.
